AWLA’s “Lost and Found” dogs page currently lists three dogs, one of which (Blanche) is also listed for adoption.
The other two are Frenchie, a cute 3-month-old Rottweiler mix, and Rome, a one-year-old male pitbull who for some reason does not have a picture. Presumably this would make it hard for his owner to find him. Maybe he was surrendered.
What will AWLA do with these dogs if no owner claims them? Will they be listed for adoption? Let’s hope so.
If not, there are definitely local rescue organizations willing to take them on. Will AWLA make the minimal effort to necessary to save Frenchie and Rome by notifying the local rescue community?
It should be assumed that these dogs were given names by the AWLA. For owners searching for their missing pets, this may be confusing.
AWLA must hold stray animals for a minimum of five days, ten if the animal has some form of ID, or shows other signs of ownership. After the hold period, these animals are evaluated as to their adoptability.
I thought perhaps “Rome” was so new to the shelter that the staff simply hadn’t managed to get a photo of him on the website. However, in checking his ID number, I see that there are many animals in the shelter with higher numbers, who are more recent additions. These animals, have a pictures on their profiles and are on view. Not having his photo on the website certainly does a great disservice to “Rome” and anyone searching for him.
